Spike Lee Compares Tyler Perry To Amos n' Andy

Spike Lee did a Black Enterprise interview and expressed his disdain for buffoonery and coonery. Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns" and "House of Payne" were prime examples. Spike said,

“We’ve had this discussion back and forth. When John Singleton [made 'Boyz in the Hood'], people came out to see it. But when he did ‘Rosewood,’ nobody showed up. So a lot of this is on us! Mike Tyson's Daughter Involved in a Freak Accident

"Mike Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter is on life support at a Phoenix hospital after strangling herself with a treadmill cord this morning in what appears to have been a freak accident, Fox News reports. The girl’s 7-year-old brother discovered her hanging by the neck from an exercise machine in their Arizona home, and paramedics were immediately called. Tyson was not home at the time of the incident."

Real Housewives of Atlanta Suffer A Double Standard?

Lisa Wu-Hartwell of ATL Housewives has beef with people who call them “ghetto” for their antics while the New York and Orange County housewives are deemed “entertaining”. She believes that black people are held to a higher standard that is unfair and doesn’t allow them room to make errors {to be human}.

Here are excerpts of her Essence interview:


ESSENCE.COM: The ATL “Housewives” show will be returning for a second season and is the highest rated of the “Housewives” franchise. It seems that the other shows are following the Georgia Peach lead for great ratings.

HARTWELL: Absolutely, they do. There’s always a double standard. Perhaps, we are held to a higher standard of excellence but real situations happen. It’s just unfair that people pass judgment and call our show ghetto but when they talk about the women Orange County or New York or New Jersey shows they call it entertainment. I believe that the way that we’ve been raised as Black people—always keeping secrets in our family and really witnessing Black women go through it—that we are judged harshly. For instance, there’s a teaser for the New Jersey show where one of the women flips over a table in the restaurant. Now had any of us done that we probably would have lost some viewers and been told that we lack class. Unfortunately, certain behaviors are more accepted from our counterparts than they are among us. So tell me is their show ghetto or simply entertainment? People need to understand that ghetto isn’t a color, it’s a state of mind and being.

There very well may be a double standard. But clearly there are other ways to handle “real situations” and ATL Housewives chose the more entertaining route, therefore embodying the “mind and being” of “ghetto”. I really don’t see the discrepancy here.

Tragic killing of young rapper Dolla

Up-and-coming rapper Dolla was killed in a shooting at an upscale shopping mall, and a man was arrested for investigation of murder, police said Tuesday.

Los Angeles County Coroner's spokesman Ed Winter said the man killed Monday afternoon at the Beverly Center was 21-year-old Roderick Anthony Burton II, the birth name of rapper Dolla.
Police said in a statement Tuesday that 23-year-old Aubrey Louis Berry of Georgia was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport with a gun Monday night. His bail was set at $1 million.

Burton was shot several times in a parking structure at the Beverly Center, and was declared dead at a hospital, police said.

Police did not say what may have motivated the killing. Records in Georgia show that neither Burton nor Berry had been convicted of a state crime there. Police wouldn't say exactly where in Georgia Berry was from.

Burton's publicist, Sue Vannasing, told the Los Angeles Times that the rapper was waiting at a valet stand after a shopping trip when he was shot. She did not respond to repeated calls and e-mails seeking additional comment.

Police said Berry was found hours later in a ticketing area of Los Angeles International Airport. He was believed to have dropped off a rental car before he was found, said airport police Sgt. Jim Holcomb.

"As the officers approached the suspect, they asked him 'Do you know why we're here?'" Holcomb told The Associated Press. "He put his (hands) up in the air and said 'Yes, I've got a gun in my waistband. Don't shoot me.'"

Airport police found a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun and turned Berry over to Los Angeles police.

Dolla, a protege of hip-hop artist Akon, worked on the soundtrack for the 2006 dance film "Step Up" and recently released two singles with Akon: "Like This" and "She So Fine."

Dolla was "an incredible artist," Akon's Konvict Entertainment said in a statement Tuesday.

"This is a senseless crime and the industry has lost a real talent. Our heart goes out to his family, friends, and fans," it said.

Dolla's MySpace page said he once modeled for Diddy's Sean John clothing line and was signed to Jive and Elektra record labels.

Diddy's publicist did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment Tuesday.

Burton was working on his second album, "A Dolla and a Dream," which was due to be released on Akon's Konvict Muzik label. A song with T-Pain was titled "Who in the (Expletive) Is That?"

On one of his songs, "Rainy Nights," Burton seemed to foreshadow his own death: "Papa died at 25 so he must have been great, they say the good die young, I guess I'm on my way."

It’s reported that “He’s been tightening the screws on her,” says a friend of Moshanda. “It’s becoming intolerable.”

Here’s the full scope:


During the winter, the heat in Mashonda’s Westchester mansion went out. “Swizz wouldn’t repair her heat,” says her friend. But a pal of Swizz argues, “The house is 30,000 square feet. The heat didn’t work in one wing, not where Mashonda and Dean slept. Swizz had been paying all of their bills. On top of that, he was giving her $5,000 a week. His advisers felt that was too much, so now he pays her $3,500 a month, on top of the bills.

“Swizz has put settlement offers on the table, but Mashonda won’t say what she needs. She just came back from Paris and London. She drives a Bentley Flying Spur and a Cadillac Escalade. I don’t think life’s too bad for her.”
Mashonda’s friend argues that she’s resisted his offers “because he’s been less than forthcoming about his true financial picture.”

Swizz’s lawyer, Dan Rottenstreich, insists, “He has taken care of her and his son above and beyond what’s required.”

If my calculations are correct it went from $20,000 to $3,500 {$16,500 difference} a month because he lawyer felt that was too much! Is that fair?

Erykah Badu Schools the Kids about Their Roots

Erykah Badu surprised a group of fifth graders in Dallas showing up at their school to drop science on how the blues influences contemporary music.


"Blues music tells the story of important events in our history," said Badu whose own music is a mix of soul, hip-hop and jazz. Things Have Gotten Worst For Alfamega

Not surprisingly Alfamega was not going quietly! According reports he became "combative and non-compliant”, tried to flee, was pepper-sprayed but it had “no immediate effect” – LOL – I wonder why! Alfa was also struck with the baton but kept running; he climbed a garage wall and jumped down “25-30” feet breaking his ankle with “pieces of bone protruding”! Damn!

Isn’t there some kind of informant card you can flash?! SMH – Now he’s charged with two counts of felony obstruction, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. I wonder if he and T.I will be at the same jail. Somehow, I highly doubt it.

50 Cent Starring as Mr. Hyde in an Upcoming Movie

50 Cent will be starring alongside Forest Whittaker in some kind of hood version of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde...and unfortunately for us they got 50 playing Hyde.


"This is one of the first announced pictures that will be produced under 50 Cent’s production company Cheetah Vision. The film will have its own financing partners and then ideally will be sold to a studio for marketing and distribution. If no studio picks it up….well then it’s Streets of Blood all over again."

His wife is catching crazy flack because she chose to stay with him and blames the other woman for “seducing” her husband.

Swizz Beats and his wife are divorcing because of another woman – no around the mill woman – Alicia Keys!! Mashonda also took the streets and called Alicia a home wrecker for breaking up her already unstable relationship. And now recent pics have surfaced with Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys hanging out in Miami with Alicia’s family!!

Snoop Dogg: That’s My Weed!

Snoop Dogg recently came to the aid of his friend at a hotel in Norfolk, Virginia when a drug package was sent to his entourage from Canada. His friend was arrested for possession of Mary Jane, but Snoop quickly came to the rescue! He arrived at the scene – wait for it…….with his medical marijuana card and told police that the package was wrongly addressed and it was indeed meant for him!!

If this was anyone else but Snoop Dogg, I wouldn’t believe it!!

White Man wants to be recognized as an African American

"A former New Jersey Medical School student, who described his ethnic background as "white, African-American," is suing the school claiming that he had been racially discriminated against, according to the Associated Press. Paulo Serodio, a student at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, is Caucasian but told fellow classmates and school employees that since he was born in Mozambique, he identifies himself as "white, African-American." At first his peers recommended that he stop but, soon after, he said he discovered fliers hung up around campus, mocking him. Plus, he was assaulted and his car was vandalized. "

I can hear the dump load of excuses that mothers give for condoning the perming of their young daughters heads, but what do you fathers think?

We won't even get into the self hate issues implied when some one lathers battery acid onto their hair to remove their natural kink, but isn't this child abuse when it is burns and hurts for nothing more than to look "cute".

Vibe to Launch Gossip Site: “The Most”

Vibe magazine isn’t missing out on the digital action – it’s no surprise that print is suffering a major setback! Vibe will launch tabloid site called "themostmag.com" on June 1 with limited newsstands issues. Vibe editor in chief explained the new venture,

“We think launching The Most in this market is a very smart, very savvy move because here's a hole in the marketplace. There is not a celebrity and lifestyle magazine that focuses on the urban community with the quality and beauty and excellence we have, and we know there's an audience out there that is hungry for it.”

Not sure I’m fully on board with that analysis because there are plenty of black blogs and emagazines who cover those topics all day! And Vibe Vixen was supposedly also filling a space that was empty…..and now it’s folded. But at least this is digital which is where communication is going….so good luck with that Vibe. Will you be tuned in?

50 Cent Tells A White Lie

50 Cent took to his blog recently and decided to clear himself of arson charges when his home in Long Island caught a blaze with his child’s mother and son were home.

50 Cent wrote, "The police department and insurance investigators ruled that there is absolutely no proof or evidence suggesting that Curtis Jackson or any affiliated parties were involved. Curtis Jackson has just been cleared of all the accusations. The investigation will continue until the guilty party is found."

But lil’ Curtis got caught in a lie when Suffolk County police detective Thomas Wieland said “No one has been cleared in the ongoing case. The fire is still under investigation. It hasn't been closed either way.” SMH @ lil Curtis

Mario is doing just about anything to stay relevant. I'm not sure why PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)is marketing to the urban community, cuz we damn sure don't rock chinchilla coats, but they are using Mario to sell us the pipe dream (bad choice, we don't listen to Mario).

Peep him in their new add for PETA which oddly enough is saying "Don't wear fur coats, just poison your self with more tattoo ink."

Now they shoulda used Diddy; that fool stay mesmerizing us into watching and buying everything he has to offer.

Louis Vuitton Calls Rick Ross Out for his Knock-Off Shades!

When it rains it really pours....at least for big boss Rick Ross. Ole boy was on the cover of XXL magazine May edition wearing some alleged Louis Vuitton sunglasses. Well Louis promptly sent a letter to XXL editors basically stating," Them glasses he's wearing ain't our ish!"

Have a chuckle at the letter!

We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks. Because the photo has generated considerable confusion among your readers and Louis Vuitton customers among others, we feel it is important to clarify several points.

The first is that the sunglasses Mr. Ross is wearing were not made by Louis Vuitton, and in fact, are counterfeit. Louis Vuitton did not grant permission to Mr. Ross or to whoever did make the sunglasses to use our trademarks. The second is that no affiliation, sponsorship or association exists between Rick Ross or XXL and Louis Vuitton. The third is that counterfeiting is illegal.

Lloyd Banks Left Interscope or Got Dropped?

In a recent interview Lloyd Banks of “you’re the only one with skills” G-unit talked about his exit from Interscope…

"I was ready to make a move - I'm a brand-new engine. If anything, it's their loss. Everything happened for a reason,” Banks said. “I feel like I’m so blessed because of my work ethic and how easy the music is coming to me. It feels so good to be an independent artist with a brand. I have direct deals with iTunes and things of that nature, where it’s direct money coming to me. It’s 50 percent of me that’s not pressed to be on a major.”

That last line says that 50 percent that would like to be on a major! Can Banks make it past the mix-tapes? 50 is off his game, YaYo is nonexistent and then there is Banks – but can he make it solo?
